Linear Optimization and Sensitivity Analysis Projects

NasaMist Production Model for Minimum Production Cost

For this project, I developed a linear optimization model to determine the minimum cost production quantities for chemicals used to produce 1000 pounds of the pharmaceutical drug NasaMist. The model ensured production adhered to ingredient percentage composition constraints. The optimal solution indicated producing using 460 pounds of chemical 2, 459 pounds of chemical 3, and 90 pounds of chemical 4, at a minimum cost of $10,810. Sensitivity analysis was then conducted by varying the percentage of one active ingredient to observe cost variations and determine a recommended production range.

Optimal Radiation Effect

In this project, I created a linear optimization model to identify the optimal combination of radiation beams to maximize radiation delivered to brain tumor tissue while minimizing exposure to healthy tissue. The model determined beam intensities and orientations to deliver 228 units of radiation to tumors within normal tissue constraints of 60 units. This ensured patients receive the most effective treatment while protecting healthy areas.

Optimization of Acquisition Strategy and Sensitivity Analyses

For this project, I performed two case studies:
1) A linear optimization of procurement quantities from 3 suppliers to minimally meet valve requirements, resulting in a purchase cost of $16,500.
2) A production optimization determining minimum cost manufacturing locations for two drugs within machine time constraints, with a total cost of $1,300. Both cases included sensitivity analyses on requirements/times and costs.
